Question:

We recently moved into a rental house and the rosebushes here have blackspot. Is there a natural way to treat this?

Article continues below

Answer:

Blackspot disease causes black spots on yellow leaves. The best thing people can do to prevent rose problems is to buy disease-resistant roses.

With blackspot good sanitation is very important. Remove diseased flowers and foliage, and remove leaves from the ground. Good air circulation around roses speeds up drying and reduces the chance for blackspot. Water the roots and make sure you allow time for the bush to dry off before night when the fungi like to grow.

There are some products on the market that are non-toxic fungicides -check at your local garden store to see if they carry them.
