What can I use for my old family recipes instead of condensed cream of mushroom soup?

Answer:

Why not try making an onion or mushroom gravy? I find that it works well as a substitution, especially if the original recipe called for diluting the can of soup. Make your gravy thinner or thicker to fit your needs. Condensed soups tend to be high in sodium, so making your own version can drastically cut your sodium intake in a recipe as well.
