Book Review

Soy of Cooking
by Marie Oser
Review by Erin Pavlina

Soy of CookingI'll start this review with the part of the book I liked best: The food! So tasty. My highest recommendation goes out to try the Chunky Chick Pea Salad. This is a fantastic, wonderful salad (reminiscent of tuna salad) that is a great sandwich spread. The addition of the capers to this recipe really makes it taste unique. It's a good alternative to veggie sandwiches or peanut butter and jelly.

I also really enjoyed the Dilly Broccoli Rice. I like to get a nice hit of nutritional yeast each week and this is one tasty way to do it. Steve enjoyed the Soybeans in a Pod and can't stop eating it.

Of course I had to try the Garlic Mashed Potatoes. These tasted great, but they don't reheat well. You should eat them fresh. We were stocking up for the week and made too much.

The book also contains some good information about cooking that anyone will appreciate. I can't wait to try the desserts. You'll really enjoy this cookbook. Perhaps the only drawback I can think of is that some of the recipes contain a lot of ingredients, and this sometimes made me feel like I wanted to just heat a baked potato in the microwave instead. But the good taste of these recipes makes the effort well worth it. And I really like the variety the book offers.
