Book ReviewSweet FreedomBy Ricki Heller Review by Cynthia Mosher
Can desserts really be healthy and good for you? So good that you feel good about giving them to your children? Typical desserts are filled with allergy-inducing ingredients, fat, cholesterol, sugar, and refined foods, leaving almost no nutritional hope. With such a list of ingredients it's no wonder that many consider a dessert a dietary sin or something to rarely indulge in. But what if you could actually indulge in something made of such good, wholesome, healthy ingredients you could actually improve your nutritional intake by having a piece of cake, a slice of pie, or a cookie or bar? Now THAT would be Sweet Freedom and THAT is the book we've had at the top of our recipe books pile for the last few months in the VegFamily kitchen. This big little book offers up five great chapters of recipes: Breakfast Baking: Muffins, Scones, Rolls, and the Like Cookies, Bars and Squares Cakes, Cupcakes, Toppings and Frostings Cheesecakes, Pies, and Baked Puddings Raw and No Bake Treats While we are always on the look out for a great vegan muffin and other sweet breakfast fare, our interest was more in the sinful categories of Cookies, Cakes, Cheesecakes, Pies and Puddings.
Author Ricki Heller
does not disappoint! She takes you by the hand and shows you how to
create delicious, nutritious, sinful sweets using whole, natural,
unprocessed ingredients.
What did we love? The Glazed Almond Bars and Vegan Butter Tarts are way up at the top of our list. Rich and delicious, they are wonderful for everyday dessert or to serve at a party. Our favorite cookie was the Seed Jumble Cookie, filled with flax, sunflower, pumpkin, sesame, seeds and made delicious with cranberries and chocolate chips. But if you really want to eat a sinful dessert and know you did your body good try the Dalmatian Cheesecake Brownies. Oh. My. Sweetness. Whatever your sweet tooth might love you're sure to find something in Sweet Freedom. Get your harcopy through Vegfamily's Amazon link or buy an instant digitally delivered ebook. |
