However, it is possible to give him too much, throwing off a healthy balance of essential fats and putting the child at risk. Just under one teaspoon per day is sufficient for this age; do not give over 2 teaspoons in a given day. Always add the oil to warm or room temperature (not hot) foods, and never cook with it.
