Does anyone know of an essential oil or other natural product that could help heal/minimise a scar? My son gashed his forehead on the bannister a few weeks back, and unfortunately has an inch long scar to show for it.

There's a blend of oils called Mother's Special Blend something or other that's meant for pregnant mommies to help prevent too many stretch marks.

100% pure Vitamin E oil is great for preventing scars. Just rub it on for a few days or longer.

vitamin e oil is also good for breaking up scar tissue after you do get a scar. i used it when i took out some poorly done navel piercings, and the scars looked soooo much better. i just massaged the area with vitamin e oil a couple times a day.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll try some Vitamin E oil.

I'll have to look for some. My dd had to get stitches on her chin the poor sweetie is just under 2. It was a rough night though she didn't seemed the least bit bothered by the gash in her chin she was just wanting to play. LOL

Anything with zinc! Especially a sunscreen with zinc, as it also keeps skin supple while it heals....you have to make sure that the wound is not open and still bleeding, of couse.
This works especially well on burns, too. I've been badly burned several times on my under forearm, and there isn't one red line left to speak of!

currently we use Mederma for Kids as suggested by the peditrician that put the stitches in at the ER. I know most of the ingredients in Mederma are sunscreens. BUT he also said make sure to ALWAYS use sunscreen on it when we go out so there really is a correlation to sunlight and scars. ;)
