This just goes to show you that "dairy-pushers" are our for their own interests, and not yours.

“even if you’ve been diagnosed with Lactose Intolerance, you can still drink milk.”

If you are Lactose Intolerant, ask your doctor about the following ways you can manage your condition and still get the nutrients your body needs:

Start small:
Try small, frequent portions of milk.

Work it in:
Gradually increase your serving size.

Pair it:
Drink milk with food, rather than on an empty stomach.

Make it easy:
Look for lactose-free milk and/or supplements which can aid
lactose digestion.

Go to the pros:
These tips may not work for everyone. Follow the advice of your doctor. "

Do these people actually think that they are giving you tips??? How about "Avoid drinking the stuff because it's bad enough for your body and the cows we steal it from"? They could have mentioned a milk alternative that will not give you the runs and churn in your stomach... hmmmm soy milk sounds good or even rice milk.

My 2 cents,

EricP

I really wonder when and how the practice of milk-imbibing began. I mean, did our ancestors really think it necessary to suckle at a cow's udders? No shame, nothing?

Sheesh. Isn't it only too obvious that cow's milk is meant for BABY cows?

Rebecca,

It's not our ancestors I'm worried about, it's the people that should have evolved from our ancestors that worries me... wearing fur, eating meat, hunting.........

The problem is, if it hadn't been started at one point, it wouldn't have snowballed into the mammoth problem we are dealing with today. My fiance's mother insists that because her parents, grandparents and great-grandparents all drank milk, therefore it's the right thing to do.

I hope they still don't believe that the world is flat :D

My children are l/o vegetarian, although they have never had eggs except in a few baked goods. Mostly it is a compromise with my husband b/c I have been vegan for 14 yrs (l/o for 3 yrs before that) & his father was a butcher. His parents both died at young ages from colon cancer & heart disease, so they are not around to be horrified by the kids' diets :p .

Anyway, I do try not to feed them huge amounts of dairy especially given their family hx of health problems on their dad's side, but do find the notion amongst the general public that dairy is a "health food" somewhat amusing.

A friend even commented that she feeds her daughter ice cream for breakfast b/c she loves it & it is at least healthy b/c it has milk in it! I try not to offend people & not be too outspoken to people on the issue. My 4 y/o does point out the dead animals in people's shopping carts at the grocery store, though. I have gotten some weird looks there!

That is hilarious Christa about your kids! My 6 year old does the same thing. She did it even more when she was younger, but now is developing a sense of what might offend others. More power to your kids for making people think. We can't sometimes say things, so the kids can speak for us. LOL!
