I was over at PETA's Action Alerts page after following duckie's link about "Animals in the War," and came upon another alert that I find very troubling and very disappointing, especially considering that I regard UCSD quite highly and would like to eventually go to graduate school there (though not in the School of Medicine, where this Action Alert is focused).
"The Medical School at the University of California-San Diego (UCSD) currently kills dozens of dogs each year in its first-year pharmacology and physiology classes. In these teaching labs, students anesthetize dogs, cut open the dogs’ chests, and use their beating hearts to demonstrate principles of physiology and pharmacology. At the end of the demonstrations, they kill the dogs."
Here's the link to the full text of the alert: http://www.peta.org/alert/automation/AlertItem.asp?id=687
If you have a moment, please take a look and think about signing a petition to end these labs. (There is one petition link for California residents and another link for residents of other states and countries.)
