I was watching the news today, and was so disturbed by this story. America is SICK!!!
Years ago when Taco Bell started the Yo Quiero Taco Bell campaign with the cute little Chiahuahua, everyone and their grandma had to run out and buy a Chiahuahua. Supply and Demand caused every Puppy Mill in North America to jump on the band wagon and breed Chiahuahuas. NOW that everyone is over the Taco Bell commercials, it seems that they are over the dogs as well. So not only is there a SURPLUS of Chiahuahuas, but people are GETTING RID OF THEIR CHIAHUAHUAS!!!! Why buy an animal first of all, when there are plenty of homeless ones that could use a good family. Second why buy an animal if your just going to dump it when you get sick of it!!!???? ARGGHHHH, morons make me so frickin' angry!!! So apparantly there are *200* Chiahuahuas in custody of the city that were confiscated from a puppy mill. Their lives are in limbo. They are to be euthanised, but THANK GOD there is a Chiahuahua rescue fighting to get custody of all 200 dogs. Their lives have been spared for one more week, pending some politics with the court system. Apparantly the dogs are "unfit" to be pets. The rescue is trying to convince the court that the dogs can be socialized and put in good homes. I am praying that they win. Those poor dogs :(

hey Frenchie,

One thing you should realize is that most people that 'impulse buy' pets are usually people that treat pets as property and have absolutely no problem with dumping their dog on the streets.

I've rescued too many animals to tell you this, but it's the sad truth. It seems that every time a movie features a cute cuddly puppy or rodent, every parent on the block runs out to get one for their kid. After about 1 week of 'loving' their new pet, it's often neglected and either dies, or is let loose on the street.

Puppy mills don't help, but neither do the people buying from them.

I gotta agree with ya Eric, i've seen enough of these things here too...we have dogs being bought and dumped or neglected and pets of all kinds being dumped with SPCA and other animal welfare associations on the grounds that the animals just don't appeal to the family anymore...on the more positive side of things is that there's a law in Singapore stating that anyone caught abusing or abandoning animals would either be jailed or fined...but the 'pet shops' are not doing anything to make the situations any better....
