The Most Amazing Sound

I think I mentioned in another thread that I'm pregnant, so if you didn't see that one, that's part of my great news!
I'm 14 weeks right now, and I went for my 2nd appt with my midwife today. (She's awesome, btw. She says she does the birth all natural and basically plays everything by ear.) The assistant took my vitals, and then she said she was going to try to find the baby's heartbeat. She said that sometimes its hard to find this early on, so it seemed like she was warning me that it might take awhile or that we might not be able to hear it. She put the KY on my abdomen and then right in the spot she put the microphone, there was my baby's heartbeat, clear as day. It was really loud too. (Hehe, another healthy baby, courtesy of veganism!) I almost cried. I had the assistant bring my MIL in the room so that she could hear it too. She is soooo excited too.
I also scheduled my 1st sonogram for early Oct. I was joking that so many people will be there that we will need a big screen TV like the one you'd watch the Super Bowl on for everyone to see.

Yes hearing the heartbeat really makes it all real and you start to really connect with the baby. Congratulations! This is a very exciting time for you. Please keep us posted, especially after the ultrasound.

My husband said that the heartbeat sounds like dogs barking underwater . Congrats on your baby!

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you. I remember the first time I heard Emily's heartbeat. It's so exciting.

I'll definately let everyone know how the sonogram and everything else go. Hehe, my fiance was unable to come to my appt on Monday (he went back to college, and he couldnt miss class), and he was kinda disappointed that he missed the baby's heartbeat. So this morning he put his ear to my abdomen and tried to listen for the heartbeat. He thinks he heard something, but I dont know if it was the baby or some other organ in there doing its job!

We're going to find out what the baby is, probaly at the sonogram in Oct. We're hoping for a boy, but as long as the baby is healthy, we'll be happy. I mainly want to know so that I can start buying clothes and stuff for the baby's room. (Not to mention diapers! An expecting friend of mine said to buy a package of diapers every time you go shopping so that you can ease the strain of $20+ a week on diapers once the baby arrives.)

I just wouldn't go too crazy buying one size of diapers (i.e. - don't buy tons of newborn size) b/c you don't know how fast your baby will grow. My older dd was born weighing 8lbs. 1/2 oz. By her 2 week check up, she was 12 lbs. She was out of newborn size in no time at all. They do go through a lot of diapers, though!

With Tessa (younger dd), I used a combo of cloth & disposable diapers. She was 2 1/2 ozs. heavier than her sister at birth, but didn't grow like a giant like her sister did. At almost 4, she is now about the same size that Angelina was at 2.
