1yr old 1st try soymilk threw up

Hello everyone.
My husband gave my son a bottle of soy milk for the first time
(silk) and about 20 minutes later he started throwing up and he ended up
doing it 4 times total.

Is he allergic or was it too early to do this ?

Does he have any other soy in his diet? If he's allergic to soy, I'd expect him to have reactions to other forms of soy (tofu, tempeh, TVP, processed foods with soy, etc.). One year of age is probably fine for starting some soy, but if he's still breastfeeding, you don't necessarily need to supplement with other milks.

sometimes its a food allergie or sometimes its too much of a good thing, or sometimes its just the timing...i noticed when we would give our son large amounts of soy (more than just a spoon full) he would have runny stools. so we limited his soy intake pretty much until he was about 4, but he seems to have grown out of it now, and his gut can handle the soy. although we still limit the amount of soy he gets, because of the estrogen.

It could be an allergy, but I would think he would be throwing up a lot more because of soy in other products that he gets. It may just be that he's not used to it yet. Sometimes it will take their little digestive systems time to get used to new foods/drinks. If he can't tolerate soy milk, you could also try almond or rice milk.

I would try rice milk, or gradually wean your baby from what he has been eating all along.. if you have been breastfeeding, I would gradually do an ounce of soy/rice/coconut milk at a time mixed with breast milk. We switched my son to a variety of milks, gradually.. soy, rice, almond, coconut, and hemp milks... now he can tolerate anything. He is lactose intolerant and we are vegan so we never bothered with cow's milk...

You should still do breastmilk or formula till 2. My first three did rice milk. But, the fourth had some different variety. i like to rotate hemp, almond, coconut.

A milk allergy occurs when the immune system mistakenly sees the milk protein as something the body should fight off. This starts an allergic reaction, which can cause your infant to be fussy and irritable, and cause an upset stomach.
