Talking I'm so proud of my cabbage eater!

Okay, this is just to brag because I'm so darn proud - but my daugher who just turned two, has just "discovered" purple cabbage at lunch today. She must have inhaled about a cup of it at one sitting! She has been going through a veggie revolt for the last few months, only eating selective veggies like the occasional carrot, beets and some leaf lettuce. But I've been patiently putting a variety of different veggies on her plate for meals and making exaggerated sounds of enjoyment when I eat them, in hopes of enticing her to try them. And so today for lunch, I gave her some sesame noodle salad which had cut up vegetables including purple cabbage in it. She started eating the cabbage, and discovered that she really liked it! She actually bypassed her watermelon and banana bread, asking for more and more cabbage (really not "normal" behavior lately for this kid).

Not to say that she will now start eating every vegetable that graces her plate with the same gusto, but man, it's little victories like this that make a mom proud. And I'm so, so thankful to have a little positive reinforcement to keep me on the right track with our toddler's diet. It's really easy to slip into complacency and start fixing her the same things over and over again because they are known favorites. What do they say, it takes something like 15 tries before a child starts to like certain foods? So take heart out there, keep servin up the veggies!
